Nana Goes Home

By J Aaron Farr on Thursday, June 28, 2007

This morning I took my mother to the in-town airport check-in as she prepared to fly back to the United States. She’s been visiting us here for over month, watching Maeli and helping us get settled in our new home. It’s been wonderful to have her here and the flat will feel a bit empty tonight without her around.

These last few days we tried to pack in a bit more sightseeing before she left. We visited some of Hong Kong’s street markets again, went to Ocean Park, rode the mid-level escalators in Central, enjoyed dim sum, and took a weekend trip to Macau. The only thing we missed was the Big Buddha which has been inaccessible since the cable car line has been down.

My mother loves to travel but hasn’t been out of the US since her missionary service tour in Guatemala long before I was born. So this was quite an adventure for her and we’re very grateful she took us up on our offer to have her stay here.

Jenny, Maeli and I are now on our own again, but not for too long. We’ll be hiring a helper to watch Maeli during the day. Jasmine should be joining our family within a week or two. I’m sure one of the things she’ll be hearing from our daughter is “Where Nana go?”
