The New Year

By Jennifer Farr on Saturday, January 19, 2008

We’ve taken a little break from blogging. The rush-rush of the season provided an opportunity to sluff off our Internet responsibilities. Aaron ignored e-mail for a long weekend only to face some 3,000 odd messages in his inbox. Yikes! I’m lucky to get 10 e-mails in one day, but then again I’m not on the board of directors for Apache.

Instead of ignoring e-mails, Maeli and I left our tropical island and endured a 15 hour plane ride to Pennsylvania, USA. We faced some light snow and heavy tug of war games to fit in family visit after family visit. I enjoyed being truly American through all-night bowling and eating overwhelming quantities of meat. Also, in the two weeks that I was home, I walked less compared to one day of Hong Kong life. Needless to say, my first South China Sea yoga class was painful.

In the end, it was a struggle to board the Hong Kong bound airplane. While tears streamed down my mother’s face I was reminded that I might not see her before next Christmas.

And the #1 question while we were home? You guess:

1. How do you like Hong Kong? 2. When are you coming home? 3. How is Aaron’s business?

I suppose most of our family and friends keep up with Perigrinari so there’s no need to ask about two of those questions. Regardless, there seems to be only one thing on everyone’s mind. To the dismay of friends and family, we simply don’t know how long we’ll be here. It’s safe to say that we’re flying by the seat of our pants in Asia. People think we’re being secretive, but honestly, we try to balance our lives in a way that is half planned and half flexible. But right now, 100% of our lives are up in the air. So reassuring! ... especially after one year of being away.

Note: Our camera is somewhere between Hong Kong and Pittsburgh and so we won’t have any new photography up until we buy a new one.

We admire what you are doing… and the family will always ask.  I live 2 hrs away from my family and after 8 years some of my cousins still ask when I’m moving back home.
